last minute planning, or lack thereof…

t-minus 96 hours until i fly out to meet haha and friends in hokkaido and i’ve decided to drop the size of my carry on from a limit-pushing 49 liters to a more manageable 41 liters.   the asian in me is having a hard time accepting that the 16% decrease in storage volume looks like 30% in physical space 🙁  oh well, this was just the trial run and my goal is to be 100% packed, less my snowboard bag, before my last 48 hours.  yes, i’m kind of a procrastinator but in spite of all my shortcomings as an organizational freak, i’ve actually started a packing list

anyways, my original point for this post was to document the fact that it’s all becoming very surreal at this point.  i’ve spent the last week tying up loose ends for work (or trying to) and spending time with friends that i haven’t seen in quite some time due to getting lost in this hectic game we call life.  catching up on our happenings and getting my fill of some of the things that i’ll be missing the most from this beautiful city of ours; from mouth watering fish tacos c/o sal y limon to savoury shanghainese food without the spit on the restaurant floors to my bitter, hoppy friends that come in 1 and 1.89L sizes:

the realization has hit me that i won’t be seeing most of them for nearly a year.  i say most because our tentative plans have us meeting up with some friends as well as my parents along the way.  so that leads into my other thought of how lucky i am.  not just lucky to be in a situation where i have the freedom to make some of my bucket list a reality (and what a huge one the first stop, snowboarding in japan, is) but to be able to do so with someone as amazing as haha.  she might be the only one who can tolerate me for long stretches and i’m quite sure that tolerance will be pushed to the limit at many points in this trip muahaha 🙂

four more sleeps till i’m living the planes, trains & automobiles life…
